Bali Travel Checklist: Everything You Need to Prepare

things-to-prepare-when-travelling-in-bali

Your bags are half packed. The checklist is growing. And somewhere between "travel adaptor" and "mosquito repellent," the preparation starts to feel less like excitement and more like project management.

Here is what most Bali travel guides will not tell you: if you are staying in a Nakula villa, half the things to prepare when travelling in Bali are already taken care of before you land.

Your airport transfer is arranged. Your breakfast is confirmed. Your villa staff is briefed, your pool is ready, and your concierge is reachable the moment your phone connects. The real Bali packing list for a luxury villa stay is shorter than you think.

What Your Nakula Concierge Handles Before You Arrive

Before you start adding items to your checklist, understand what is already thoughtfully arranged by your villa team.

This is what transforms a Nakula stay into a more seamless luxury villa experience in Bali.

• Complimentary daily breakfast is included with your stay.

Begin each morning slowly with breakfast served in the privacy of your villa, surrounded by tropical gardens, open-air living spaces, and the calm rhythm of island life.

• Enjoy a one-time complimentary dinner for minimum three-night stays.

Spend an intimate evening within the comfort of your private villa, where a curated dining experience allows you to relax, gather, and enjoy Bali without leaving your retreat.

• Complimentary airport transfer is included for minimum two-night stays.

Your arrival in Bali is designed to feel effortless from the very beginning, with a private driver ready to escort you directly from the airport to your villa in comfort and privacy.

This complimentary is applicable for only selected villas. Beyond these exclusive direct booking privileges, daily housekeeping, pool maintenance, concierge assistance, spa arrangements, private chefs, and curated island experiences are all handled seamlessly behind the scenes, allowing you to focus entirely on enjoying your stay.

What You Actually Need to Prepare for Your Bali Holiday

With the villa details handled, your focus narrows to the essentials that only you can manage.

1. Travel Documents and Entry Requirements

Confirm your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date with two blank pages available.

Check whether your nationality requires a Visa on Arrival, which costs IDR 500,000 and can be arranged electronically in advance through the official e-VOA portal.

Complete the Electronic Customs Declaration online before landing.

• Pay the Bali tourism levy of IDR 150,000 through the official Love Bali portal before your flight.

Screenshot every QR code and save it to your phone.

These are non-negotiable steps that no concierge can do on your behalf, but they take less than thirty minutes when done in advance.

2. What to Pack for a Villa Stay

Your Bali packing list for a luxury villa stay is lighter than most guides suggest.

Light, breathable clothing in cotton or linen. Bali's climate is warm and humid year-round, and your villa's atmosphere is relaxed.

A modest outfit covering shoulders and knees for temple visits. A sarong works perfectly and is also available for purchase locally.

Comfortable sandals for daily wear and enclosed shoes if you plan to hike or explore rice terraces.

Swimwear, sunscreen (SPF 50), sunglasses, and a hat. Mosquito repellent, particularly for evenings.

Your phone charger and a Type C or F travel adaptor.

What you do not need to bring: beach towels (your villa provides them), bulky toiletries (your villa is stocked), heavy jackets (the coolest evenings in coastal Bali rarely drop below 24 degrees), or expensive jewellery.

3. Health, Money, and Connectivity

Carry comprehensive travel insurance. This is the single most important preparation item on any Bali travel checklist, and it cannot be arranged after the fact.

Bring a basic first aid kit with pain relievers, plasters, anti-diarrheal medication, and any prescription medicines in original packaging.

Drink only bottled or filtered water.

For money, bring two physical bank cards and a supply of Indonesian Rupiah in cash. Many temples, local markets, and smaller establishments only accept cash. Use ATMs connected to major Indonesian banks (BCA, BNI, BRI, Mandiri) and avoid street-side money changers entirely.

Download WhatsApp before you arrive. It is the primary communication channel in Bali, and the easiest way to reach your Nakula concierge during your stay.

Download Gojek or Grab for any independent transport needs outside of your villa's arranged drivers.
